More aligned to a countrified flavor than his more rocking self-titled debut, Cadillacs... fleshes out his gift for providing real insight through a complimentary troika of personal authenticity, polished country/folk/rock songwriting, and lyrics that chew true to the lifestyle of a downtrodden guitar-slinging country boy. This Lawrence, KS, cab driver turned Nashville dishwasher shines through with the sincerity of a Johnny Cash or the Boss, two fellows with whom he's often compared. The backing Horsefeathers provide essential compliment, with longtime collaborator Matt Mozier adding saucy lead guitar work. Production is crisp and dynamic, making the rock kick-ins strong and punchy while offsetting Dodge's softer folk undertones.
